It all started when...
Anne Gibson opened The Body Workshop Dance over 30 years ago after moving to Cirencester from Manchester where she was Head of Dance in a large secondary school. The dance school began with one small Creative Dance class at the Bingham Hall, Cirencester in 1987. Prior to this, classes took place in Anne’s double garage!
Anne had one aim which was to provide dance to those of all ages and abilities, including those with additional needs, without the stress of exams. As more classes were added to the timetable and with a very experienced, committed teaching team, all dedicated to inspiring children with their passion for dance, the school developed into the supportive and popular network it is today.
To continue the dance school’s development, Katharine Dudley was honoured to become Principal in the summer of 2017. Katharine had been involved in the dance school for many years prior to this, including helping backstage at the annual dance shows since 2005 and running the administration since 2015, so this next step fitted Katharine perfectly. Coming from a background in Education and Psychology, Katharine knows how important dance and movement is for improving physical health as well as mental health so is passionate about continuing Anne’s mission.
In the summer of 2019, it was announced that The Body Workshop Dance would become Spiral Dance Studio. A name that resembles continuous physical development, a feeling of inclusion and a symbol of creation and growth. Alongside this, new classes for children and young people with additional needs were announced as a venture to make Spiral Dance Studio the first fully inclusive dance school in Cirencester.
We are really looking forward to the future as Spiral Dance Studio and would love for you to be part of the family!
